JAMES FURCINITO
1980---outstanding performance

John O. Martino, who was one of Furcinito’s teammates on the Romans back in the 1920’s, points out that Jim was busy working in a drugstore and was the sixth man on the team and subbing when needed in exhibition matches as well as league play. “He was a great pot game bowler and was also great for the game in other ways than just being a competitor,” Martino said. He sponsored many teams and organized at least a couple leagues, one being the Welfare League and the other being the RCA League at the old Columbus Park Lanes. When Syracusans sponsored the visit of teams from Italy to compete in the 1973 A.B.C. tournament here, Jim gave strong support financially and otherwise, to this project. His work helped to build lasting friendships with the Italians.
