Bernie Maurer was
the first truly outstanding bowler in Syracuse. In 1908, he carried
the highest average in the New York State Traveling League. During
the 1912 & 1913 seasons, he was rated as the second best bowler
in the United States and traveled around the U.S. with Jimmy Smith,
who was the number one rated bowler, putting on exhibition matches.
He carried a lifetime average of 194 for thirty A.B.C. tournaments.
Also he was inducted into the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame
in 1995.
