“Ace” is one of the few wrong foot bowlers to achieve high average laurels in Syracuse bowling circles with his best being 197 at Solvay Recreation in 1938. His most treasured feat on a national scale was when he led the Solvay Bank team with a 677 and a second place finish in the A.B.C. tournament in Cleveland, Ohio in 1938. Ferretti was a finalist in the 1939 Journal-American singles elimination tournament and ended up finishing in fifth place. He was well known for his competitive spirit and participating in countless challenge matches. The best publicized of these matches was a forty game match with fellow Hall of Fame member Len Capucilli in 1942. “Axe” was one of the first bowling “stars” on television when a team match between his Markson Furniture team and Spence Dry Cleaners was televised from Bowl Mor Lanes on North Salina Street in 1946.
