PETER PIRAINO
1975---meritorious service

Peter Piraino was a bowler, a bowler’s friend, manager and bowling proprietor. He managed the Palace Lanes, Amos Lanes, and opened James Street Lanes in 1953 and was the proprietor of that center until his death in 1969. Pete served on many promotional committees in his day, notably the Bowlers Victory Legion during World War II when funds were being raised for war relief causes. While at the Amos, he organized one of the first leagues for Black bowlers that were sponsored by the Dunbar Center. He also worked hard for the removal of the discriminatory clause that kept Blacks out of the A.B.C... Pete organized leagues for old-timers, the physically handicapped, and loved to help junior bowlers. His center, James Street Lanes, was the first host for the Champion of Champions tournament which was held there for many years before traveling around to other Syracuse area centers..
