He has been bowling in classic leagues for over forty years. He has carried over a 200 average in five different decades with his high being 216 in 1986. In 1968, John was one of only twenty-six men out of twenty thousand in Syracuse to carry over a 200 average and was one of the ten men selected to the World of Ten Pins All-Star team. He has bowled in twenty-seven A.B.C. tournaments with his best showing being a thirteenth place finish in the all-events. He has been one of the twelve finalists in the Herald Masters on six different occasions.
